On the 28th of November, 2015, Yspot organized a book fair at Hotel De Horizon, Abuja. I was privileged to be a part of the event which featured different books for different ages and stages. The occasion also witnessed the launching of the new Children’s Devotional for ages 10-15 years by the organizer – Miss Tope Olukomogbon.
The stand out part of the event for me was however the “Spelling Bee” competition that the children had. The children were grouped according to their educational level, and given words to spell, which gradually increased in difficulty as the children progressed in the competition.
The Star moment of the competition came, when after Primary 6 level students were asked to spell a word but none of them was able to, and Baba – a Primary 1 boy, volunteered to spell the word “Establishment”. Carefully and assuredly, taking his time with each syllabic part of the word, Baba spelled the word correctly to rousing cheers from the whole audience.
Readers are leaders as echoed in my new book “21-Day Leadership Diet”, and indeed, if we get our children reading and making it a hobby at a very early stage, we are not waiting till tomorrow, we make them leaders of today.
Working to build your leadership abilities? Please check out my book, 21-Day Leadership Diet, it will be of great help.
